Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen has announced that she will increase the childcare allowance from 0 to 4 years old to 0 to 6 years of age over the next four years, doubling the amount to NTD2,500 (HKD625) per month to NTD5,000 (HKD1250) per month.
According to the World Population Review, Taiwan's fertility rate in 2019 was the last in the world ranking, at just 1.218. In recent years, the Taiwanese government has also been actively introducing child-rearing measures to address Taiwan's low fertility rate.
At the moment, the threshold to apply for childcare benefits is quite down-to-earth:
Conditions for the payment of childcare allowance:
(i) Households with a combined income tax rate of less than 20%. (Consolidated net income under NT$1,210,000)
(2) The parents did not receive the leave-of-service leave allowance during the application period.
(3) Failure to accept public and quasi-public care services
(i.e., parents who take care of their own infants at home or parents of private kindergarten children do not need to be trained for care by relatives)
